#16 What's a WIKI??

A Wiki is a quick-to-build, easy-to-edit website on which all information can be edited, changed, or rewritten by the users or members of the site. It is an incredibly useful tool for collaborative writing, pooling knowledge or exchanging ideas, especially on a subject that changes or needs updating frequently.

The word "Wiki" comes from the Hawaiian phrase "wiki wiki", which is commonly used to indicate something fast.

good things bout Wiki's are : Information is quickly added to database. Draws on expertise of readership. Diverse subjects with information derived from the passsions of the readers.

bad things bout Wiki's are : No content control. Editing wars happen when there might be a controversial subject. Not a scholarly source of information.

Possible uses for Wiki's in the library would to keeping an updated Wiki page for your branch...subject lists, book reviews and policies/best practices.
