Escaping to FIJI!!

Times when the drag of day to day life gets to me I tell sum of the buddies in my world!! OH..just want to jump on a plane to FIJI!! no reason..really have not researched the location to see if it would live up to the Shangri-la! of my dreams.. so today lets take a quick trip to there and see just how that might be.

OK..trip planning... BWI-SUV --$1665 ....20 + hr plane ride..
OUCH..might think of getting a ONE WAY TICKET!
($939) Wonder if they might need sum librarians out there on the beach?
Maravu Plantation Resort hotel looks to be bout $180-$335 per night with breakfast for a single..
And WHY FIJI??
Fiji's 322 islands float in a sea of shimmering blues on the flip side of the international date line. Here stunningly gorgeous beaches are the norm, and sea breezes flit through thatched houses, stirring the gauze that drapes four -poster beds. The sound of "Bula" - hello, good morning, welcome - is the only clue you'll need to sense the genuine friendliness of the Fijian people. Fijian massage reflects the local way of life - relaxed, deep and natural, using coconut oils and tropical plant essences. "Many Fijian people are natural healers, and this reflects in the massage as well,"
Here's sumone who did just that..escaped to FIJI!!!http://www.escapeartist.com/efam/64/Travel_To_Fiji.html

The Longest Day.... 6/21/2007

Summer solstice - the longest day of the year, when the Sun is at its most northern point in the sky.

Read Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream"The "midsummer night" is actually the night of the summer solstice. It is said that on Midsummer Night elves and fairies come out in great numbers. In some traditions, the summer solstice is the time of the Sun God.

One of those days u dream bout in mid January when the wind does blow and the snow/ice forecast has you scrambling for the vestiges of civilization before you are in cabin fever land. So enjoy nature's furnace blast~~like all things in this world..it won't last.

Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer....Those days of soda and pretzels and beer.....Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer....Dust off the sun and moon and sing a song of cheer....Just fill your basket full of sandwiches and weenies....Then lock the house up, now you re set....And on the beach you ll see the girls in their bikinis As cute as ever but they never get em wet....~~~~~~~~~~~~-artist: Nat King Cole-peak billboard position # 6 in 1963-words by Charles Tobias and music by Hans Carste.

May Peace Come Soon

Today June 14Th is Flag Day..so went searching for a picture to add to the bloggspot here to go with that and this one came up. Guess to me it signified the most sorrowful use of our stars and stripes ~~ that of being used to drape the remains of the fallen soldiers.

A flag to be given to the family in remembrance. Just seems so sad. Maybe by the next Flag Day June 14, 2008 there will be peace.

Searching I did find this about the flag draped coffin. Good to know.

Here is how to understand the flag that is surrendered to so many widows and widowers. Do you know that at military funerals, the 21-gun salute stands for the sum of the numbers in the year 1776? Have you ever noticed the honor guard pays meticulous attention to correctly folding the United States of America Flag 13 times? You probably thought it was to symbolize the original 13 colonies, but we learn something new every day! The 1st fold of the flag is a symbol of life. The 2nd fold is a symbol of the belief in eternal life. The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing the ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of the country to attain peace throughout the world. The 4th fold represents the weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance. The 5th fold is a tribute to the country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, "Our Country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong. "The 6th fold is for where people's hearts lie. It is with their heart that They pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States Of America, and the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all. The 7th fold is a tribute to its Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that they protect! their country and their flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of their republic. The 8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day. The 9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers. For it has been through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded. The 10th fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of their country since they were first born. The 11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies in the Hebrews eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in the Christians eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit. The 13th fold, or when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost reminding them of their nations motto, "In God We Trust." After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for them the rights, privileges and freedoms they enjoy today. There are some traditions and ways of doing things that have deep meaning. In the future, you'll see flags folded and now you will know why.

The great unboxing begins....

Once upon a time there was a very old ugly dingy library well loved by it's customer base and it had a loyal staff that managed to make the best of the limited space available. Then a gift from the taxgods bestowed 4.2 million dollars to make this library be sumthing that might reflect the active library following as well as be a place of welcoming and enlightenment. After many months of planning, destruction, changes, relocation of books, boxing 90% of collection, toil by many trades and flexiblity of staff being sent to remote locations in the meantime while keeping a functioning mini library in place~~~ The time has now come for the great unboxing!! The 4 storage trailers that have held contents for months , boxes and boxes sum 4500 of them are now being hauled into the new space to be reshelved. Carts labeled with different dewey locations are at the ready. The staff, back HOME to this branch again is in place to help book by book, shelf by shelf, section by section, area by area, reassemble this library into it's new space. Wish us luck as we venture into this new territory.....to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before

Greetings

For those who know what a computer addict I am..having an online place to fuel my addiction is probably not a good thing! So here is step #1 on the road to h............ or sumplace probably. Forgive my unconventional spelling as well as grammatical errors. You can expect is on purpose just to travel a bit off of the path of the straight and narrow. Maybe sum words from Robert Frost's poem have a bit of relevancy here...

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--I took the one less traveled by,And that has made all the difference.
